Is it true?

Someone sent me a link to this article earlier, and after thinking about it a little, I realised the guy is right.

I do love handheld gaming sometimes, but I just never seem to find the time. If I’m at home, I have a multitude of great games to play on my PS3 or PC. When I’m travelling…well, I don’t travel that often. Mostly just to work, see my lovely girlfriend (hey, she might be reading!) or see friends. My journeys just don’t seem long enough for anything beyond the casual games on offer on the Android Market. 

So Really, where does the portable gaming system fit in? The games are either too casual to justify their price tag (at least when you have an Android/iPhone), or too…hardcore to play in short bursts on your way to work.

Are they just for kids? Or holidays?

So I was watching the news earlier, and saw a piece on how apparently, 73% of Londoners ‘back’ the 2012 Olympics. They apparently commissioned a very scientific survey, and asked a whole 1000 people what they thought. That’s 1000, out of approximately 7.7 million people living in London.

Now I get that they can’t really ask every Londoner, but that’s 0.01% of the population. What the fuck? How on earth could they possibly just expand that to account for the views of all Londoners? I consider myself to be slightly misanthropic, but even I could probably quite easily ask 1000 people in just my borough and come up with very different results.

Not really much point to all of this. It just pisses me off when they take figures like this and report it as though it was actual fact. It’s not. I think they should be required to mention the percentage of the population asked before reporting on any surveys. How many would pay attention to the result if the news reader started with ‘We asked 0.01% of Londoners…” ?

Not very origional, I grant you. But it looked bad having a totally empty space under the heading “Random thoughts and postings…”.

I totally do have thoughts. It’s just hard to think of one right now…

But hey, I’m off to the Hyper Japan convention tomorrow with my girlfriend (also a gamer, woot!) so I’m sure I’ll have plenty to post soon enough.

Either that or something will happen that brings out the rapidly ageing grumpy old man within. Expect occasional rants on random things.

Anyway, I’m off to play some Dragon Age. Or maybe Call of Duty…
